May Character Trait: Courage
This month, we are focusing on the character trait of Courage. Courage is about more than being fearless; it means doing what is right even when it feels difficult, trying new things, and standing up for ourselves and others in a kind and respectful way.
Throughout May, our students will be learning that courage can show up in many ways, such as raising a hand when unsure, including someone who feels left out, or speaking up when something doesnβt feel right. At Applewood, we encourage our Gators to take positive risks, grow from challenges, and support one another as they build confidence.
Letβs work together to help our students discover that courage isnβt about being perfect. Itβs about being brave enough to try.
One Idea for at Home:
π The βCourage Challengeβ Jar
Create a simple jar filled with small βcourage challengesβ that your child can try throughout the week.
- Write ideas together like: try something new, ask a question, help someone, or share how you feel.
- Each day, have your child pick one challenge to complete.
- Celebrate the effort and not the outcome! Talk about how it felt to be brave.
This is a great way to build confidence and show that even small acts of courage can make a big difference.
