March Character Trait: Integrity
March Character Trait: Integrity
At Applewood, our character trait for the month of March is Integrity. Integrity means choosing to do what is right, even when no one is watching. It is about honesty, responsibility, and staying true to our values. When students act with integrity, they help create a safe and caring school community where everyone can learn and grow.
Throughout March, we will highlight and celebrate the many ways students show integrity. This includes telling the truth, keeping promises, taking responsibility for their choices, and treating others with fairness and respect. Integrity supports our students in becoming trustworthy friends, thoughtful learners, and responsible citizens.
Ideas to Talk About Integrity at Home
Families can explore and talk about integrity throughout the month with simple conversations and activities such as these:
1. Discuss what βdoing the right thingβ looks like at home.
Talk about everyday examples such as helping without being asked, being truthful about mistakes, or returning something that does not belong to you.
2. Share stories about integrity.
Talk about moments when someone in your family showed integrity, or read a book together that features a character who is honest and responsible.
3. Talk openly about mistakes.
Explain that everyone makes mistakes. Integrity means being honest about what happened and finding a way to make things right.
4. Explore the idea of fairness.
Invite your child to think about what is fair in different situations at home or at school. Ask questions such as βWhat would be the fair choice here?β
5. Recognize and celebrate integrity.
Point out moments when your child shows honesty or responsibility. Positive attention helps build strong habits.
6. Try simple βwhat ifβ scenarios.
Ask questions such as:
- βWhat would you do if you found something valuable on the ground?β
- βWhat would you do if you saw someone being treated unfairly?β
These conversations help children understand that integrity is something they can practice in small, everyday
