September 30 - Orange Shirt Day – EVERY CHILD MATTERS
The history of Indian Residential Schools is a sad part of history, but an important one to address in our schools. The well-being of our children and youth will benefit from learning this true history. We are looking to affect change in this younger generation, for them, in their lifetime, to bear witness to reconciliation and to begin to understand and honour those treaties that were agreed upon so many years ago.
On September 30, 2016, all schools in DSBN will join with others across Canada in celebrating Orange Shirt Day – Every Child Matters recognizing the harm done to generations of children by Indian Residential Schools and as an affirmation of our commitment to ensure that every child matters. This initiative calls for everyone to wear an orange shirt to honour the experience of Residential School survivors and to remember those who did not. This is an excellent opportunity to begin the discussion on Residential Schools in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come.
Please show your support by wearing an orange shirt on this day!
