       ECO Club

The ECO club, under the direction of Mrs. Dumanski had planned for April 30 ~ the day for planting many large and small trees around Applewood to eventually provide shade for our children at outside break times. Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority is the partner for providing trees for this project called Canopies for Kids. We plant the small trees in the morning (volunteers made our job easier) and a contractor planted the large trees in the afternoon using large machinery. Students were able to watch the machinery in the afternoon, as it fit into their classroom programming. It was an amazing day and a wonderful addition to our school property! Over the summer the NPCA will take over from us the caring and watering of the trees.

Further, on April 25th we had St. Catharines Mayor Brian McMullan at Applewood from 11 am to 12 pm to “kick-off” our Earth Week Clean City program. Individual classrooms took a portion of our grounds and put litter in its place.

Thanks to all Staff and Students for their great work!
